Hollywood archaeologists

A little while back I picked up this cool Indiana Jones figure by Stronghold. It’s metal – which I like – and has a lot of character. While painting I realised that the two Lara Crofts that I painted back in 2020 could probably use an update too. So, here you go, three freshly painted archaeologists! I wonder, are there any other archaeologists that I could add to my collection? Indiana Jones (Stronghold) Classic Lara (Hasslefree) Second reboot Lara (Hasslefree)

Tomb Raider diorama, part 3 (finished)

The diorama is done! Let me start by showing the two miniatures. Modern Lara was pretty difficult to assemble. The raised arm is a separate piece. And as the arm is very thin, there is very little surface area for the glue. I therefore used a more sturdy caulking-type glue, but this left the join looking rather messy. I got around this by painting the excess glue to resemble bandaging, as Lara is often covered in bandages in the modern games. I covered the base in bits of cardboard to match the pattern of the diorama floor and added a little blob of miliput painted up to look like a medipack (I know these are only found in the older games, but who cares...). Lara from the older games was a pretty straightforward paintjob. I didn’t have the correct blue for her top, however, so I had to mix some up myself. I think I may have made it a bit too dark, but it still looks alright to me. The base was flocked to match the diorama. Now for the diorama. For the classical-themed side I used two r...

Tomb Raider diorama, part 1

A while ago I picked up these two 28 mm scale Lara Croft figures from  HasslefreeMiniatures . Or should I say Eve and Indiana miniatures, because that is how they are sold, I guess to avoid any cease and desist letters. The right figure has the outfit and exaggerated physique of the classic games, while the left one resembles the 2013 reboot Lara, including her iconic red climbing axe. Both are very nice sculpts, although I’m not a big fan of the ‘gangsta’ pistol grip of classic Lara. They are a bit top heavy (insert joke here), so I may have to add some weight to the bases to make sure they stay upright. I thought it would be fun to make a diorama to display both figures. The idea is to make it two-sided, so that each Lara has her own little tomb to raid. One side will have a classical look, the other will be a gothic church ruin. The main materials I’ll be using are MDF, some blue foam and cardboard. I started with two rectangular MDF picture frames, one for the base and one fo...
