World War 2 Dutch, part 3 (finished, for now)

Click here for part 1 ,  Click here for part 2 I ended my last post featuring my WW2 Dutch army by strongly hinting that I might be getting some Dutch marines at some point. Well, that time is now!  While at the outbreak of World War II, the majority of the Dutch army consisted of conscripts, the marines were all professional soldiers. Stationed at Rotterdam, the marines could be recognised by their dark blue coats and the anchor badges on their helmets. The rest of their equipment was very similar to that of the regular army, but they received much better training.   Although they were only few in number, they put up a strong defence of their city of Rotterdam. When the Dutch capitulation was declared, the German commander tasked with capturing the city was surprised by how small the defending army had been. As the story goes, he ordered his men to salute them out of respect for their bravery and nicknamed them the Black Devils. Sadly, the Bolt Action army list do...

World War 2 Dutch, part 2

Click here for part 1 ,  Click here for part 3 Right, so now I have a small 500-ish point Dutch army for Bolt Action! In my previous pos t I showed my first 12-man infantry squad with a Lewis light machine gun. I have now painted a second squad, as well as some support units. Much of the May ’40 Miniatures catalogue is currently unavailable, as the moulds seem to have reached the end of their lifespan. I therefore made do with what was available. That means I’ll have to use an NCO model as a stand-in for an officer until those minis become available again. The only field gun currently available is the 47mm Böhler anti-tank gun, so I picked up one of those. Rather interestingly, the gun is modelled to look like its being moved by the crew, which makes for a very dynamic model. I also bought a 3-man mortar team.  The Landsverk M38 armoured car is also temporarily unavailable, so I got a 3d printed one on Ebay instead. Up close some of the print lines are pretty obvious, but o...

World War 2 Dutch, part 1

Click here for part 2 ,  Click here for part 3 Being a cloggy I have been ogling the World War 2 Dutch figure range by May ’40 Miniatures for a while now. Three months or so ago I picked up a 12-man infantry squad, just for a fun painting project. For a bit of painting inspiration I also bought the Osprey book ‘Hitler's Blitzkrieg Enemies 1940: Denmark, Norway, Netherlands & Belgium’. This book gave me an idea: What if I bought a small number of models for each of the five armies covered in this book? Luxembourg, by the way, is included in the book but somehow didn’t make it to the cover. I won’t collect an entire army, I lied to myself, but I’ll just paint a couple of minis, just for fun. I immediately purchased some WW2 Belgians and Danes, so those will eventually show up on here as well. I’m still looking for some affordable Norwegians. The only vendor I’ve found online so far is located in the US, so the shipping costs are actually higher than the prices of the mini...
