Having gotten the heavy weapon teams and most of the vehicles of my early war German army out of the way in my last post, this post centres around the infantry. These are all from the Warlord Games Blitzkrieg German infantry box and, although the sculpts are really good, I have to say I’m a tiny bit disappointed with the box.
First of all, each figure consists of about 6 to 8 parts, so some instructions wouldn’t have gone amiss. However, all you get is an image of the sprue labelling the individual parts. E.g. left arm for MG gunner, leg for prone soldier, etc. Notwithstanding, the parts go together very well and, although assembly is rather time consuming, I found the process rather fun.
Secondly, although the box says it contains enough parts for 30 miniatures, I was only able to build 28 due to the layout of the sprues. The box contains five identical sprues with bits to build an MG40 gunner and loader, some MP40’s, a pistol and of course several Kar98 rifles. My plan was to build an officer with pistol, three MG40 teams, three NCO’s with MP40’s and to have the rest carry rifles. By miniature 29, however, I had run out of arms that interfaced with the rifles, essentially prohibiting me from build the last two. A little annoying, but oh well.
To paint these Blitzkrieg Germans I used the following colours (all Vallejo): German fieldgrey for the jacket, neutral grey for the trousers, German camo dark green for the helmet, black for the webbing, flat brown for the rifle stocks and canteens and flat earth for the rifle slings and bread bags. I finished them off with a coat of quickshade and two coats of matte varnish.
Oh yes, and I also assembled a second Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf. C. This one is from Rubicon Models rather than Warlord. Both kits are identical in size, but the Rubicon Sd.Kfz.251 has noticeably fewer bolts modelled on the body. This seems to be more realistic, but is perhaps slightly less eye catching.
How can I buy these items
ReplyDeleteThese are not for sale, I'm afraid. But the figures are made by Warlord Games and can be purchased in various places online and in hobby stores.
