Up next in my project of repainting my old Space Marine army are some Space Marine Scouts, Terminators and a Terminator Captain. The paints I used are essentially the same as for my tactical squads. So if you’re interested in which paints I used, you can find out out over here.
To start with the Scouts, these are the old (late 2nd edition?) metal minis that came in blister packs. They may be pretty old, but the sculpts hold up really well compared to some other figures. There were only two sniper sculpts available back then - at least in my local hobby store - so I added in a couple of Cadians for variety. Once painted I think they fit in very well with their Space Marine cousins.
To be honest, my original Scouts were already painted to a fairly decent level. The biggest improvement are the camo cloaks. The camo pattern was inspired by a four-tone desert camouflage, with the colours swapped for light and dark grey, black and white. I realise that the grey cloaks don’t make a lot of sense in relation to the brown bases, but it seemed a nice complimentary colour to the red armour.
Then there is this five-man Terminator. These are the plastic models that, at the time of writing, are still available. I have a feeling, though, that they might be slowly on the way out together with the so-called firstborn marine. Highlighting all the Aquilae and Cruces Terminati (if that is indeed the High Gothic plural of Crux Terminatus) was really fun.
And finally, an all-metal Captain in Terminator Armour. I had lost the little spikey halo thing that was supposed to go on his back. This left a pretty big hole in his armour, which I had to fill in with Milliput.
Like the Scouts, this model must be 2nd or 3rd edition as well. He is more than a full head shorter than the plastic Terminator Sergeant. Even though I put him on a massive rock (cork, by the way), he is still only about the same height! Classic GW scale creep at play there.
So, eight scouts, five termies and one captain adds up to 14 minis. With the 23 marines I painted earlier, that brings the total minis painted so far to 37!
