Of the lucky few that did manage to obtain the new khaki uniform, hardly any received the accompanying brown leather boots, belt and back pack, as huge quantities of the old black leather equipment were still available.
I’m currently about half way through painting my little Danish army. For now, I’ve painted all minis in the khaki M1923 uniform with black leather equipment. The only exception are the two officers, which have brown leather boots and belts. I’m thinking, though, of perhaps giving four or five minis the older grey uniform with black great coat to add a bit of variety.
Great Escape Games have a very useful painting guide on their website with suggested colours for all three patterns of uniform (M1910, M1915 and M1923). The colour codes are all for the AK range of paints. If, like me, you favour Vallejo paints, the following colours are pretty good alternatives. Technically, the rifle and gas mask strap should be a light brown colour, but I thought that the medium grey provided a nicer contrast to the khaki of the uniform. Plus, the Quickshade that I use actually gives the grey a bit of a brownish tint. Your mileage may vary, though.
