Time for the second and final part of my little Danish army. This time up are a motorbike with sidecar and several figures in the old grey M1915 uniform with black M1910 great coat.
These figures were so nice that I had to paint them twice.... Not really, I had a pretty big accident with the spray varnish. Everything looked fine for the first couple of minutes after spraying, but then all of a sudden the varnish frosted over so aggressively that it seemed as if I had just primed them in white. I’m not exactly sure why this happened, because I used the exact same brand (Vallejo matt) as always. It wasn’t a particularly cold day, but perhaps I should have warmed up the spray can before use? Or it may have been that the humidity was higher than usual, because it had rained earlier that day?
In any case, I read somewhere that you can sometimes remove the frosting with a cotton swab and some olive oil. The problem is that you then need to clean off the oil with soap and water. And annoyingly I had already flocked the bases... So, instead, I decided to strip the minis back to bare metal and start over again.
Second time around I used Vallejo’s brush-on varnish. Don’t get me wrong, the minis are great. But not ‘paint them three times’ great...
